Alamosite is one of the most rare of macro-crystallized Tsumeb mineral species and only once was a pocket of large crystals of this quality found. Superb, translucent, lath-like crystals of Alamosite make up most of this colorful and important miniature specimen from Tsumeb, along with some Smithsonite. This is a significant cluster of transparent to translucent, elongate, pale blue crystals from 0.5 to 2 cm in length that are in parallel to divergent groupings. There are a few freestanding crystals in one area that are very well formed and terminated, which is very rare for the species. This came out of a single 1972 pocket on the 28 Level, in the upper portion of the mine's second oxidation zone. Although sold as anglesite and other species on assumption, it turned out to be a new species. The find came to market in 1974 and was published in 1975, although by then the major pieces were already in private hands. One of these seldom turns up today. We found this in an old collection in Japan. Alamosite in good crystals is one of the more uncommon of Tsumeb rarities, and seldom seen for sale. We have seen less than ten specimens for sale in 40 years in this business as of 2026, and they only come to market as generational collections are recycled to new hands.
