The best of the best in terms of all important qualities from this legendary find: color; luster; and size of the botryoidal growths. Provenance to 3 well-known specialists in the Southwest; and to a one-time find - that is a bonus. This is a spectacular miniature that was saved by Bob Jones, one of the first collectors to see these and buy these when Benny Fenn brought them out in the late 1960s. He passed it to his son Evan Jones, who kept a hugely significant Mexican collection before selling it in the early 2000s to focus exclusively on his Arizona collection. And then it went to Wayne: another legend of the time when the mineral community, shows, and field collecting in the Southwest literally built our hobby and asset class as it became today - three legends in the field! ALL such mimetites as this were collected in a single, large pocket in end of 1968 and start of 1969 by Benny Fenn (right before the Tucson show of that year!), from a small prospect. It was literally a small prospect, not even a developing mine, and it never panned out or produced more specimens again. Despite attempts to find another mimetite pocket, no more ever came out. These remain unique in the world for their overall aspect; and large, colorful pieces like this are treasured by those who have them. Long in IKONS book author Wayne Thompson's personal collection of Miniatures/Thumbnails built with his daughter, Stevia, when she was young. We will give a copy of Wayne biographical book free with this one. Laszlo Kupi photos.
