A stalactitic grouping of crystallized calcite, this hosting sprays of metallic stibnite throughout. Unusual and complete all around, neat specimen for this classic old locality.The Herja mine, situated in Maramures County within the Baia Mare metallogenic district of northern Romania, is a historic polymetallic deposit that was actively mined for lead, zinc, silver, and gold over many decades until its closure around 2005. Geologically, the deposit is a low-sulfidation epithermal system associated with Neogene post-collisional volcanism and complex magmatic intrusions in the Gutai Mountains of the Eastern Carpathians. The mineralization consists of an extensive network of conjugated hydrothermal veins hosted in Paleogene sedimentary and Neogene volcanic rocks, famous worldwide among mineral collectors for stibnite, semseyite, fizelyite, galena, sphalerite, calcite, etc.
