A rarity - a boleite on matrix! We almost never see fine boleites on rock matrix, let alone as displayed here, perched as if on a pedestal: this is an extremely rare style and aesthetic display of a species which normally occurs as either singles or as "cubes in mud" to be rough about it (the majority of matrix finds are in stabilized soft rock or clay). There were many single crystals found in the 1970s find and again in a few modern era finds of the early 2000s. However, on matrix...that makes the piece surprising and exceptional in terms of how the sharp "blue cube" at the end displays! Note the boleites here show several modifications to edges of the cube, when you look closer. The largest crystal is 8 mm. This sharp specimen has crystals of a refined, metallic luster, not dull and matte as are some. This is from the 1970s find, as it has been in the collection of Jean Smith since that time. An extraordinary and unusual thumbnail-sized display specimen of boleite. This is a fine, competition-level thumbnail specimen from the long-held collection of Jean Smith (founder of the Rocksmiths dealership which I grew up buying from, as did so many collectors of my own generation in the 1980s-90s).
