This double spearpoint-shaped of crystals exemplifies the classic Ernstite after Childrenite pseudomorphs known at their best form from the Linópolis district in Brazil. Childrenite is a rare iron-aluminum phosphate hydrate and Ernstite is an equally rare manganese-iron-aluminum phosphate hydrate with hydroxyl and oxygen and is a product of oxidation of Childrenite. These pseudomorphs produce an attractive burnt umber color in the finished product. This artistic, double-ended piece is is nearly equant in size from top-to-bottom and side-to-side. Some of Brazil's pegmatites contain numerous primary and secondary phosphate species like these; and the Linópolis district has produced the best pseudomorphs of this type! This is a robust duet of pyramidal crystals is quite dramatic and an absolutely excellent example of these Childrenite-Ernstite pseudomorphs! A floater with no attachment points. Ex. Paul Stahl collection - 28991.
