Hexagonite is a varietal term for manganoan Tremolite and this showy and colorful miniature crystal is from the classic locality at the Gouverneur Mine at Fowler, New York (probably from the 1960s or before). It is very rare in this quality and this is a nice smaller crystal that is translucent with some slightly gemmy areas. Tremolite is in the Amphibole Group, however, rarely do we see rock-forming minerals this attractive and colorful. The crystal is mostly complete with good prism faces, a top termination and a not terminated at the bottom, which is very good for these since they are essentially "frozen" in the rock they are found in. It is essentially diamond-shaped in cross-section as are most Amphiboles. An excellent example for the species! From the Bill and Anne Cooke collection.
