Literally, hundreds of purple, translucent, pseudohexagonal crystals of Chromian Amesite blanket the display surface of this colorful cabinet piece from the Saranovskii Mine in Russia - a classic old discovery from 2001. They are accompanied by several Perovskite crystals as a bonus. The Amesite crystals are considered best of species and also happen to be gorgeous. They show as well-formed, elongate, pseudohexagonal prisms that range in size from 2 mm to 1.4 cm in vertical, to near-vertical, growth; and with the flat tops of the crystals easily reflecting incident light. Although this is a very colorful and large piece, such things are not common at all from here. The Saranovskii Mine in Russia is a Chromite mine that is better known for its rich specimens of bright green Uvarovite Garnet, which are still common on the market or at least when older collections turn up. Specimens like this, however, were never common at all. This mine produces the best-of-species for Chromian Amesite due to its gorgeous lilac color and great crystals, like this piece. The Amesite is associated here with four, brownish crystals of Perovskite, a calcium-titanium oxide. Ex. David Bristol collection, purchased from Jordi Fabre in 2001. Comes with a custom lucite base for vertical display.
