The upthrown blocks of the complex and long Himalaya Mountains zone have revealed numerous pegmatite zones throughout the entire region. This fine combination piece, with its Fluorites, Aquamarines, and Muscovites, is classic for the Nagar District. Here, the main pair of gemmy Fluorite octahedrons are each about 2.7 cm on edge. The silky luster accentuates the darker, reddish-pink outer zone, and the gemmy cores still flash with internal, reflected light. Equally, the cores show a stronger, vivid, purple fluorescence, and even under SW the Fluorites react mildly. The hexagonal Aquas, also up to 2.7 cm, are light-blue, gemmy, and well terminated. The cm-size blades of Muscovite are in exceptional condition and they are in well-formed, attractive clusters. Combined with some white Albite, they create an excellent matrix for the Fluorites and Aquas. There is a small amount of wear, but the aesthetics and balance of this highly-representative, small-cabinet cluster make it a bargain. Worth the price simply for the Fluorites, actually! This is an elegant combination of a historic style.

Aquamarine from Chumar Bakhoor, Nagar District, Pakistan
Chumar Bakhoor aquamarine is one of the defining specimen styles of the Pakistani Himalaya: pale to medium ice-blue beryl standing upright from glittering beds of bladed muscovite, sometimes accompanied by pink fluorapatite, pink to green fluorite, albite, microcline, quartz, topaz, schorl, and adularia. The locality is not famous simply because it produces aquamarine; it is famous because so much of its best aquamarine occurs as complete, displayable matrix specimens rather than as isolated gem rough. The classic Chumar Bakhoor “look” is a sharp hexagonal prism, glassy and transparent to translucent, set against a mica-rich pegmatite matrix that gives the blue color a cool metallic contrast.
