Diamonds of such transparent quality and balanced octahedral form in this size are quite rare, for us collectors of specimens. Anything with clarity like this, seldom survives the cutters; and so we are lucky it has some interesting carbon veils within that prevented this otherwise clear gem from being cut into pieces! This Diamond is excellent as a crystal! It is a well-formed, sharp octahedron with modified, beveled edges that are so fine they give the impression of being tapered. The GEMMY interior, smooth faces and modified edges play well with the light and give the adamantine luster even more brilliance. This crystal is clear and colorless, and is so gemmy, in fact, that it is easy to see the inclusions of carbon shapes floating within the crystal. The inclusions are interesting and bright. Significant in size with a weight of 5.88 carats, this beautiful Diamond was previously in the renowned collection of Jack Halpern by the late 1990s (although we are placing it here within an update of other African thumbnail specimens, to get noticed).
