Here is an exceptional matrix specimen of pyrolusite from Germany consisting of a half-dozen interconnected sprays of the mineral. it is unusually attractive for ANY example of this species from anywhere, with a surreal machined look to it! The aesthetic, gray-black, submetallic sprays grow into one another at just the perfect orientation and sit on the matrix for perfect balance. The shiny, divergent sprays range in size from 1.5 to 4 cm with the largest one placed at the top with the apex of the spray artistically pointed upward for ultimate effect! The pyrolusite is set on an irregular matrix composed mostly of small (less than 1 cm) sprays of pyrolusite intermixed with pinkish, anhedral patches of rhodochrosite. A remarkable pyrolusite specimen from this historic old locality, Paul picked up long ago in an old collection sale. Ex. Paul Stahl collection.
