There are many places in the world where Smithsonite occurs as botryoidal or stalactitic masses, but far fewer where larger crystals are seen. Tsumeb mine in Namibia is one of the most important worldwide localities for crystallized Smithsonite and it occurs there is a wide variety of colours and crystal shapes. This fine display specimen from the Hettrich Collection displays an unusual colour-zoned form, with generally smaller crystals (4-6 mm in size) which are in parts colourless or cream, and transparent, but with some showing orange edges. At 10 cm in length this is a good sized cabinet Smithsonite for Tsumeb and its whole display surface is coated with crystals.
