Beautiful lustrous thick crystals of wulfenite measuring to 2.5 cm in size across the top of a sparkling white crystallized dolomite matrix. This is in terrific condition. What at first might appear as damage on the large crystal is completely natural. Superb for the species from this famous locality. The Tsumeb Mine in northern Namibia is one of the most famous mineral localities in the world. Discovered in the late 1800s, the deposit was worked primarily for copper, lead, and zinc and eventually reached depths of more than 1,700 meters. The mine is renowned for producing an exceptional variety of minerals, with over 300 species identified. Among these is wulfenite, which occurs in the oxidized zones of the deposit as thin tabular crystals that range from yellow to orange in color. Although not as abundant as at some other localities, wulfenite from Tsumeb is valued for its well formed crystals and association with other rare secondary minerals.
