Schizolite (formerly Serandite) with Analcime
Serandite with analcime is one of the most highly-desired combinations from the formerly-named Poudrette quarry at famous Mont Saint-Hilaire. HOWEVER, A NOTE: More recent XRD analysis of these salmon-colored specimens of this style indicates that most of the “serandite” specimens with this habit and coloration from Mont Saint Hilaire are actually schizolite, and among the best and largest of species. It was always assumed to be serandite but apparently is not; and so we need to change old labels. Good form and luster are hallmarks of both species here, with the flesh-colored crystal blades reaching 6 cm in length and an unusual accent: the complex, modified analcime ranging from a few mm up to 1.9 cm. These elongated blades are a rare habit for serandite, and in hindsight I suppose it is obvious that this was something different, and simply not analyzed well in the time they came out in the late 1980s. The structure of the intergrown crystals is beautiful, and they create a lattice appearance when viewed endwise. This is a distinguished and aesthetic association from Mont Saint-Hilaire, and there were just a few of these specific finds from the 1970s to the 1980s.
