Analcime
This is a surprisingly large, pure ghostly white cluster of large, sharp, glassy analcime crystals on matrix from the classic locality at St Andreasberg in Germany. This mine and region is known for silvers, but also for some of the earliest fine examples of zeolite group minerals. Usually small and insignificant, this old piece redefines what we can expect from here. It is the best we have personally seen, and Paul thought so as well (as a lifelong German collector!). The well-formed isometric crystals are more transparent at the periphery and more translucent toward the interior. They have a very glassy luster with the crystals dominated by trapezohedral faces and they are from 0.5 to 3.4 cm across. The analcime crystals are somewhat clustered, however the crystals and their crystal form is distinct. The crystals sit on a thin plate of light colored matrix and there are numerous, smaller crystals of analcime on the underside and are accompanied by a white druse and crust of calcite. This is a rare and very good small cabinet piece from the historic mines at St Andreasberg.
