An attractive and very dimensional cluster of sharp, historic calcite crystals with riveting pink color. Mashamba West cobaltoan calcites, as with those from a very few other nearby localities in DRC, were renowned for their unique, vivid-pink color and sharp scalenohedral form. This excellent, small-miniature has rich color (with phantoms, no less), good gemminess, and seemingly frosted faces resulting from the ultra-fine, twinning striations on some of the faces. The sculptural nature of the cluster is divine, with a central, 2.7 cm scalenohedron rising above four smaller crystals that radiate outward from the base of the larger crystal. This style, collected in the late 1980s (only!), Mashamba West pieces are unsurpassed and are considered to be the very finest cobaltoan calcites ever found.
