The unique association of Rhodonite with Galena is one of the defining features of the Broken Hill mines in New South Wales, Australia. Not only is this combination of lead sulphide with manganese silicate weird, even the habit of the Rhodonite crystals is very different to those seen anywhere else. This stunning small cabinet-sized display specimen is in exceptional condition and features two forms of Rhodonite crystals, both consistently cherry red in colour: elongated prisms, reaching 2.5 cm in length; equant, or blocky ones, reaching 1.2 cm on edge. These Rhodonite crystals protrude from the dense, grey metallic Galena matrix and are exceptionally fine for this important occurrence. Ex Milton Lavers' famous Broken Hill collection, this piece is specifically attributed to North mine.
