NATIVE Gold with Chlorargyrite
It is unusual for us to present a specimen where its provenance is so poorly known, but we have made an exception with this piece due to its exceptional richness, not only in Chlorargyrite, but because of its association with visible Native Gold. This association is known from the silver mines in Chile, in particular at Sierra Gorda during the late 1800s, where Chlorargyrite was formerly remarkably abundant. The richness here is certainly museum quality and with some detailed research or analysis someone might be able to upgrade this specimen even further. The heavily oxidized gossanous matrix is shot through with abundant waxy grey Chlorargyrite and the areas of Native Gold are highly prominent too. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
