Cuprian Smithsonite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
6.3 x 4.3 x 2.8cm
ex. Weyand Collection
While Smithsonite is the most common secondary mineral found at Tsumeb, the copper rich variety is one of the more rare, and desirable varieties sought by collectors. This specimen displays an extremely rare crystal habit. While Smithsonite is most commonly found as either botryoidal or rhombohedral crystal forms, this is a rare example of prismatic Cuprian crystals, almost acicular in habit. This is a highly aesthetic and unusual addition to my collection.
