Absolutely perfect lustrous cubic crystal of galena setting up nicely from matrix. Classic Missouri specimen. This shows all around nicely. Collected in the late 1980s.The Sweetwater Mine in Reynolds County, Missouri is part of the Viburnum Trend, one of the largest lead producing districts in the United States. Mining began in the 1960's to extract galena from Mississippi Valley type deposits hosted in dolomite. Modern underground methods are used to recover lead ore along with minor zinc and copper minerals. The mine is also known among collectors for mineral specimens such as galena, calcite, and associated sulfide minerals.
