Smithsonite (Cuprian) and Cerussite
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region,
Namibia
5.2 × 2.6 x 1.7cm
Smithsonite from Tsumeb is considered the second most abundant secondary mineral. As a collector, Smithsonite's appeal stems from the wide variety of colors due to traces of other minerals, and an assortment of crystal habits.
One of the most appealing varieties are the Cuprian, with hues ranging from pale green, Apple green, deep saturated green, and, rarely the turquoise blue.
This lovely specimen features this turquoise blue, rhombohedral habit, and obvious zoning upon examination. A small, twinned, gemmy Cerussite crystal sits atop of this plate to add further appeal. Reportedly from a single pocket find, but definitely from a limited one, this is a highly aesthetic Smithsonite from the Tsumeb Mine!
