Chalcocite
It's crazy to think of chalcocite and great copper specimens coming from the trap-rock quarries of New Jersey, but it's true! This is a significant large specimen from a small find of the mid-1990s at the Chimney Rock Quarry that was quickly dispersed among New Jersey enthusiasts. This handsome piece is one of the richest I have seen with large flat-laying crystals to 4 cm over most of the surface. The flattened monoclinic crystals are long, wide and thin with a bright metallic gray color and luster and contrast well with the underlying light brownish tan matrix. The crystals are are all somewhat interconnected. This is a very important and fine New Jersey chalcocite specimen that is undoubtedly one of the best from the find for overall size and aesthetics. From the NJ suite of James Zigras' collection.
