Beryl var. Aquamarine
A large, 50 gram aquamarine crystal from the famous Mount Antero pegmatites, that should be considered large and important for the size from this location. The termination is admittedly rough, with some damage that we have not had ameliorated by restoration because it is acceptable to me in context, but it is a big and impressive crystal with a good display presence to it. A historic and important aquamarine for a Colorado gem crystal of such size and translucency, with a rich and deep color we do not often see in this material. Such crystals came out rarely, probably not more than a few dozens in total in this quality, over the 1900s. This was in the Bill Larson beryl collection at his store, The Collector, for decades before I bought this collection in 2020. He bought it from the dispersal of the EM Gunnell collection, which was actually one of the more important Colorado collections assembled in America; and it retains the label. (Comes with Bill's old style lucite base.)
