Dan Kennedy Auction Part 2 ( Already $250k in Total Bids ) | EarthWonders Newsletter #20
So remember that insane $1.8 million Dan Kennedy auction back in March? Yeah, well buckle up. Part 2 closes in a day (October 8th), and things are getting wild. There's already over $250,000 in bids on the table.
Heritage Auctions is selling off another 200+ museum grade pieces, and I'm not talking about those cute little thumbnail specimens you can hold between two fingers. These are massive cabinet showpieces, 6+ inches of pure mineral eye candy that Kennedy spent his entire life hunting down.

Here's the thing: Gold just keeps winning.
Remember that Native Gold from California that sold for $106,250 in the October teaser? And how Native Gold crushed it in Part 1? Well, history's repeating itself. There's a Gold specimen from Brazil's Serra do Caldeirão Claims currently sitting at $13,000, and there's still 3 days of bidding left.
What makes this one special? Heritage's Fine Minerals Director, Nicolas Valenzuela, describes it as "almost moss like" with a texture and size that's basically unheard of. Picture frosted golden crystals growing in these spinel twinned formations that look like frozen ferns. It's literally a golden shrub suspended in time.
The Current Top Three (And They're Still Climbing)
1. Acanthite from Mexico ($26,000)
This charcoal gray piece from Fresnillo doesn't look like much in a quick scroll by, but stop and actually look at it. Valenzuela says "This is probably one of the largest examples of this material in the world." The price has already jumped tens of thousands in the past few days alone.
2. Tourmaline with Lepidolite from Brazil ($16,000)
A 19 centimeter tall stunner that honestly looks like a cactus. The crystals are gemmy and this watery green blue color that's just beautiful. Valenzuela loves that it pulls in people "who didn't think they were into minerals."
3. Gold from Brazil ($13,000)
Our moss like Gold friend. Weird, delicate, and absolutely gorgeous.
The Dark Horse: Rhodochrosite from Colorado ($10,500)
There's a 16cm Rhodochrosite specimen from Colorado's Sweet Home Mine that's quietly climbing the ranks at $10,500. With its deep pink crystals paired with Quartz, Tetrahedrite, and Fluorite, this piece could easily challenge Gold's dominance. Only time will tell once the auction closes whether it makes a last minute surge to the top.
We'll send out the final auction results once the hammer drops. Also, the Munich Show is coming up fast (October 23rd to 26th), and we're counting down the days.
