How One Collector's Vision is setting Records
Okay, we need to talk about what just went down at Heritage Auctions.
On March 8th, they sold the first part of Dan Kennedy's mineral collection for over $1.8 million. Yes, you read that right $1.8 million for minerals. As someone who's been in this business for a while, I can tell you this is the kind of sale that makes everyone sit up and pay attention.

Here's the backstory. Last October, HeritageAuctions put up a small selection of Kennedy's stuff, just his crystallized metals (gold, silver, and copper pieces). We're talking about natural crystals here, not jewelry or processed metals. That "teaser" auction? It went absolutely nuts. The top sale was for a Native Gold from California at $106,250.
Then at Tucson this year (if you weren't there, you missed out), HeritageAuctions set up this memorial display of Kennedy's minerals. This created more buzz for the upcoming auction.
Here is what Nick from Heritage Auction told us: "Working with the Dan Kennedy Collection has been a fascinating journey from start to finish. Securing the consignment for Heritage Auctions took considerable time and care, and it was truly an honor to be entrusted with such a significant and thoughtfully curated collection."
Want to know what sold for crazy money?
1. Gold from Mato Grosso, Brazil ( $118,750 )
2. Tourmaline from Golconda field, Brazil ( $115,625 )
3. Diamond from Mina Mine, DR Congo ( $56,250 )
We have seen a lot of auctions, but these numbers? They're gamechangers. And apparently this was just Part I. Can't wait to see what happens next.
