This is a stunning green mimetite specimen that could be easily mistaken for a pyromorphite! However, this is indeed an Aussie mimetite from the legendary find of the late 1980s, brought out by Rob Sielecki. This remarkable pocket of green to yellow mimetite crystals came from an active silver mine, itself already unusual. Only a few specimens survived and were the level we would want as collectors with sharp crystals and wet luster. Most were solid plates and relatively few had isolated crystals such as this. I remember when they premiered at Tucson to huge excitement, and top collectors chased specimens down as they got dispersed over the first few years in the 1990s. Now, we do not see them on the market....or at least, not the good examples with this wet luster. This is a very aesthetic miniature-sized specimen with sharp crystals to 7mm in size. It has rich, saturated color and a wet, unique luster that makes these readily identifiable from any other mimetite anywhere in all the world. I consider myself lucky to have handled several over the years. Leaning more to the rare green color palette of the find, which is unusual, this stands out.
