A significant example of classic old axinite, found as early as the 1700s that we are aware of, and among the earliest fine mineral specimens of Continental Europe to be prized as "best of species" in the famous collections of the day which were studied as the science of crystallography developed. We rarely seen pristine, aesthetic examples of this material that meet today's collecting standards. Crystals to 2.4 cm, with excellent luster and translucency, and an amazing old label as a bonus; all combine to make this a very fine miniature-sized specimen from a historic location in France.
