This fascinating small miniature Mimetite specimen is in some respects quite typical of Tsumeb mine, but in others very different. Its rich burnt orange colour is classic for many of the Mimetite specimens seen from Tsumeb and it is a pure, rich aggregate of hexagonal prisms with slightly rounded terminations, rather than flat pinacoid ends. However, these crystals are not especially gemmy, but matt, and show an unusual transition to much paler, cream coloured tips, which rather than being perfectly round, or with bevelled sloping ends, are slightly etched. A very lovely Tsumeb Mimetite with very different character. Ex Weyand Collection.
