NATIVE COPPER
Considering that this Michigan Native Copper is a thin, branching mass, it is quite robust and strong. What it lacks in perfect crystallized form, it more than makes up for in its considerable size and presents the classic form which Native Copper takes in the mines, as thin joint and fracture-filling veinlets. It has clearly been extracted from its surrounding matrix, probably using acid etching, leaving the metallic copper metal (the Native Copper) to represent the shape of the cavities and fissures which it infilled. This particular specimen has great locality information, coming from the less often seen No. 2 shaft, Centennial mine, Centennial Heights, Calumet Township, Houghton County, Michigan, USA.
