This smart and sharp gem crystal has a stunning transparency, luster, and impact in person that has made it desirable since it came out in the 80s, across some of the most important and carefully assembled thumbnail mineral collections the world has ever seen. All of my own thumbnail mentors owned it! It went from Herb Obodda to Jim Minette to Jim Houran, to Alex Schauss. Total gem! 22.86 carats. Note that this is from Katlang, and is a color stable imperial topaz so the subtle pink-champagne hue will not fade with exposure to light, unlike many from Pakistan’s other pegmatites (the difference in color and termination style, as well as locality, is obvious once you have seen enough of them). Katlang material of this quality is much more rare than others. Laszlo Kupi photo.
