Carrollite
Quite simply, one of the most well known and widely acknowledged thumbnails from the famous finds of the late 1990s brought out by the Gobin brothers, this has always, ever since it came out, been thought of as one of the finest thumbnails of this species extant. Photos cannot convey all the subtle detail and amazing metallic luster! At the time, it was thought to be a twin due to the apparent complexity here, although later found not to be twinned. The piece has been with Alex since shortly after it came out, 20 years in the collection as a key specimen. Alex's note says, From: Brad van Scriver (Heliodor, Prague, Czech Republic), February 27, 2003. Exhibited: One of the 35 displayed specimens that won the 2010 Paul Desautel Trophy for Best Mineral Case in Competition at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. Exhibited: “The Best of the Best: Prize Minerals from the Vaults of Arizona Collectors”, held at the University of Arizona’s Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium, from February 8 to December 23, 2014, with label. Illustrated: The Mineralogical Record, Mineral Collections in Arizona, 2013; 44(3) (Suppl): 204. Illustrated: Minerals: The Collector’s Newspaper, 2014; 8: 20. Recently featured in the book, Refined Elegance (Mineralogical Record, Nov. 2022) on page 115 (a Scovil photo).
