Galena

Unknown Owner
Known to mineral collectors predominantly for its dramatic large colour-zoned glassy Fluorite crystals the Beihilfe mine at Halsbrücke in the Freiberg District, Saxony, Germany has also produced extremely fine crystal aggregates of Galena, as demonstrated by this showy small cabinet specimen. Superb, sharp, cubo-octahedral blue-grey metallic Galena crystals completely coat the surface of a thin veinlet of massive white Quartz. Around the edges of the specimen the surfaces of the Galena are typically slightly cleaved, showing the tell-tale stepped cubic faces, but the display surface is very good, with just one, or possibly two lightly contacted areas. Nevertheless, this is a rare example of well crystallized Beihilfe mine Galena and presents very well.
