Tucson, Arizona, USAThis fine miniature specimen from the historic town of Lauta in Marienberg District, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany is labelled as Proustite - one of the 'ruby silvers', but has much more interest going for it. On the other side from the small cavities containing red Proustite, is a wonderful smooth botryoidal surface showing the classic form of Native Arsenic which makes up most of the matrix of this piece. Indeed, this makes a fine example of Native Arsenic from this locality, but back to the cavities containing Proustite there are fine silky white acicular sprays of what is labelled as Picropharmacolite. This is quite a rare secondary species, but it would be worth checking as the rarer species Kaatialaite is also recorded there and looks identical.
