PETZITE with NATIVE Gold
Petzite is a rare silver gold telluride which was first discovered at Săcărâmb in Hunedoara County, Romania in 1845. This cabinet-sized specimen is from the famous ancient gold-mining locality at Roşia Montană in Alba County which lies about 30 miles north of the Type Locality. It consists of a thin pale cream-grey rock matrix upon which a finely crystallized white coating is richly dispersed with dark grey Petzite and many small areas of pale yellow Native Gold. There is a lot of Petzite upon this piece but a microscope is required to appreciate its crystalline form.
