Topaz
Schneckenstein Cliff in Vogtland, Saxony, Germany is one of the oldest of all well-known Topaz localities. First discovered in the early 18th century, its Topaz crystals represented some of the best examples of this gem species in early Western mineral collections, before the Russian and Brazilian finds came to prominence during the early 19th century. Often seen in older, especially European collections, it is extremely rare to find good larger crystals on matrix. That is exactly what this fine miniature-sized specimen is, featuring a pale amber-yellow glassy prismatic Topaz crystal reaching 2.4 cm in length and well-terminated. For overall balance, aesthetics and sheer crystal quality you will struggle to find a better Schneckenstein Cliff Topaz.
