In recent years, the Yanga Koubenza quarries in Mfouati, Republic of the Congo have produced an exciting selection of zinc and copper minerals. Notably, these intense blue smithsonites, that have rivaled some of the best from around the world. With a color comparable to New Mexico’s iconic Kelly Mine specimens, these gorgeous smithsonites have been making a splash in the mineral world. This particular specimen was cut and polished to exhibit the inside. It is an end piece, so it also makes for a nice specimen from the back, if desired. A very cool and large specimen with color and aesthetics for the species that simply cannot be matched for the price.
