Calcite with Mottramite

This super Calcite from Tsumeb mine is geometrically magnificent. Although labelled as with Mottramite, the Mottramite is in reality just a very thin khaki-green crust, but serves as the backdrop to a swirling arrangement of perfect colourless rhombs of Calcite. Many of the individual rhombs reach 1.5 cm on edge, but combine to form much more dramatic larger aggregates. The back of the specimen is also Calcite, but the crystals are smoothed from where it sits for display. The front display face is about as near to perfect as one can get for such glassy, sharp, rhombic Calcite crystals: there is one crystal towards the lower edge of the specimen with one slightly imperfect corner, but other than that it is pristine.
