Tucson, Arizona, USAThis small cabinet-sized piece from the Weyand collection is a novelty. Tsumeb mine is well-known for its Mimetite crystals of which several distinct forms are known, but this piece where they are perched upon stalactitic Goethite is really unusual. The rusty orange-brown stalactites are actually quite spaced out, providing an open texture within which prismatic and radiating acicular Mimetite crystals have developed. The Mimetite crystals vary in colour from straw-yellow, pale lime-green and brownish but all have a fine greasy lustre contrasting with the velvety Goethite. A really unusual Tsumeb specimen.
