Mimetite with Cerussite
Unknown Owner
This very distinctive miniature specimen from Tsumeb mine features Mimetite in the classic pyramidally terminated hexagonal prismatic form, but in a very unusual colour and with a super-bright adamantine lustre. A thin, slightly domed bed of Calcite or Aragonite is encrusted with upstanding sparkling gemmy dark brown to black Mimetite crystals, the largest of which is doubly-terminated and reaches 2 cm in length, and lies almost horizontally across the top of the others. A similarly coloured twinned Cerussite crystal reaching 8 mm across sits amongst the Mimetite crystals. The Mimetite crystals are, in part, coated with a thin film of reddish botryoidal Hematite which adds to their colour as internally they are quite glassy. A fascinating Tsumeb Mimetite miniature. Ex Weyand collection.
