A superb old time example from this famous locality, orange red lustrous prismatic crystals of vanadinite measuring to 0.5 cm in size across the top of matrix. The specimen comes with several previous labels as seen at the end of the video.
The Old Yuma Mine, located in Pima County, Arizona, is part of a region known for lead and associated mineral deposits hosted in carbonate rocks. Mining activity in the area dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when underground workings were developed to extract lead rich ore from hydrothermal veins. In addition to its historical production, the mine is well known among collectors for its vanadinite specimens, which formed in the oxidized zone of the deposit. Vanadinite from the Old Yuma Mine typically occurs as bright red hexagonal crystals, often forming clusters and coatings on matrix. These crystals developed through secondary processes where lead and vanadium bearing solutions reacted under arid conditions. Specimens from this locality are valued for their color, crystal form, and representation of classic southwestern mineralization.
