Colorless gemmy lustrous calcite crystals to 2.8 cm on matrix from Egremont, Cumbria, England. The crystals display excellent transparency and bright vitreous luster, with only slight peripheral damage while the prominent crystals remain in good condition. Egremont is a classic English locality situated in the historic West Cumbrian iron mining district, long known for producing fine calcite along with hematite and associated minerals from vein and replacement deposits in Carboniferous limestone. Well crystallized calcite specimens from this area have been collected since the 19th century and remain desirable for their clarity, form, and connection to one of England's traditional mining regions.
