Marcasite
Teutonia mine at Misburg in the Hanover Region, Lower Saxony, Germany is a limestone quarry used to create cement. Occasionally, dramatic crystallized growths of Marcasite were encountered and collected. Some, like this fine example, are large and spectacular, with blades of golden Marcasite and balls and colloform masses of Marcasite (or perhaps Pyrite) in fan-like aggregates overgrowing chalk. The individual crystals form beautiful complex patterns and growths. The way this specimen has been prepared makes the Marcasite sprays look like wings. A superb German Marcasite.
