Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USASpecularite is a sharp, bladed form of crystallized Hematite seen in the West Cumbrian iron mines in northern England. The crystals are usually glossy and black and are as sharp as razor blades. Although known from across the region 99 percent of specimens are from Florence mine or its adjoining mines near the village of Egremont. This fine miniature specimen of this form is in excellent condition, with the surface of massive reddish-purple Hematite coated in undamaged sparkling small Specularite crystals. On one side of this Specularite-coated surface are two cream coloured rhombic crystals of Dolomite. A lovely display of this unusual variety of Hematite.
