This pale blue variety of Smithsonite from Broken Hill Proprietary mine in New South Wales, Australia is a rarely seen classic - the blue colour usually being attributed to inclusions of Rosasite. This thin, cabinet-sized display plate is from Milton Lavers remarkable Broken Hill collection. It is almost entirely Smithsonite as a thin finely crystallized layer with a glistening microcrystalline surface. This blue material is so much rarer than the grey and white varieties of Smithsonite at Broken Hill Proprietary mine and this fine example is not only very large, but in superb condition. An Australian classic.
