This beautiful pale baby blue Hemimorphite from 79 Mine at Chilito, Banner District, Gila Co., Arizona, USA also has great character to it. The 79 mine is very well known for its wonderful secondary zinc assemblage, including its diverse range of colour in Smithsonite (zinc carbonate) and for some superb botryoidal Hemimorphite crystal aggregates. Closed as a metal mine during the 1950s or 1960s, it was subsequently operated for mineral specimens on and off and continues to produce interesting finds. This globular Hemimorphite is a really fun piece. It consists of a rusty orange gossanous matrix with cavities containing broadly equidimensional spheroidal or globular balls of Hemimorphite to 5 mm in diameter. This habit and colour of Hemimorphite is well known from 79 mine, but this large miniature specimen presents it extremely well.
