This is a proper old-time classic from the famous St. Andreasberg silver-mining district in Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany complete with two lovely old (19th century) handwritten German collection labels. This cabinet-sized piece consists of an almost parallel aggregate of unusual highly elongated pointed scalenohedral Calcite crystals (sometimes referred to as "Dog's tooth Spar") with well-formed dark grey Galena crystals (to 8 mm) with prominent truncated corners concentrated down one edge of the specimen. The Calcite crystals actually form several slightly divergent sprays each with many terminations. There is minor damage to the Calcite, commensurate with age, but this is a really fine specimen from this most important of German mining towns. It is from the superb German collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
