An exquisite full miniature of competitive quality from one of only a few worthy finds for this species, in terms of pieces that stand with the best of the best of other species...This stunning, sparkling miniature is representative of the best quality of this desirable red mineral species and such pieces came out of a small 1990s find in the Kalahari. According to John Barlow's book (The F. John Barlow Mineral Collection, 1998), these came out in May 1992 and the well-known dealer Charlie Key flew some over for John to see. He purchased his famous cabinet piece shown in the book, and a group of choice miniatures. The collection was sold in 1998 for a world record price for the day ($6 million, today perhaps $80 million...). This still has his recognizable style of label numbering, #5094, on the back. For my taste, this red color and the thin electric-sparkling crystals, are more appealing than most rhodochrosite; and yet the price of inesite is very much lower than that of comparably fine rhodochrosite specimens of any size and location.
