Tucson, Arizona, USAThis classic copper carbonate pseudomorph of green velvety Malachite totally replacing large rhombic Azurite crystals is from one of the most famous copper mines in the United States: Morenci mine in Arizona. However, good display quality pseudomorphs are not at all common from Morenci. The individual crystals on this wonderful piece reach 2.5 cm across. Some of the crystals are composites, made up of many smaller stacked crystals, but are in great condition. Unusually, the crystals are on matrix, and the only ones with any notable damage are on one edge where the crystals were previously attached to others, but this is not obvious at all, just by the presence of internal sprays of velvety green Malachite being more visible. With provenance to the 4800' Level this is a rare well documented example of this classic form and at small cabinet size it is bigger than most other specimens seen from this important mine.
