Tucson, Arizona, USAThis pale peppermint green thin plate of crystallized Prehnite comes from the classic American occurrence at Prospect Park, New Jersey, USA. This famous quarry operated for nearly a century from the 1920s until about 2011 producing some of the finest Prehnite specimens from the East Coast region of the USA. The Prehnite there takes many forms and colours (in shades of green and yellow). This cabinet-sized piece is encrusted on both sides (although only partially on the reverse) with finely crystallized Prehnite in a layer of clustered small crystals aggregated to form a botryoidal texture. There is some contact damage on the surface of the Prehnite in a couple of places, but this is a rare larger specimen of Prehnite from this important locality and this light bruising is not overly apparent. The overall form of the specimen is as a thin plate - the Prehnite covering basalt - but there is a hint of the bladed form of Prehnite pseudomorphing Anhydrite which is well-known from Prospect Park. Ex David Hardman collection no. 2774.
