Microcline var. Amazonite with Smoky Quartz
Unknown Owner
This is a rare locality specimen. So rare, that I had presumed that being Microcline var. Amazonite that it was from Colorado until I read the label correctly. It is actually from Moat Mountain localities, Bartlett, Carroll County, New Hampshire, USA. It comes from David Hardman's collection and probably dates back to the 1960s or 1970s. Typical of Moat Mountain localities the Microcline var. Amazonite is very faintly blue, but the two main crystals on granitic matrix are well formed, reach 2.5 cm in size, and make for a very nice specimen from this classic East Coast occurrence. A little Smoky Quartz is present in association, but it is the Amazonite that is the main interest here.
