An important example of a strange and beautiful find from Japan, this lightweight, bright white, contrasting matrix hosts dozens of deep purple-blue crystals of Henmilite form the Fuka Mine in Japan, the type and only locality for good crystals of this very rare species! It is a very rare calcium-copper boron hydroxide. It is one of the more beautiful rare species minerals with their well-formed, rich dark-blue crystals with exceptional geometric sharpness (our camera is having trouble with the deep blue color - they are not quite black). This is a superb small cabinet specimen of high quality from a remarkable find at the type locality that has been long thought to be unproductive for over a decade now - in fact, these came out in the early 2000s. Few ever reached this size and perfection for display specimens, as most were in the 2-5 cm range. This is particularly fine as the sharp crystals are strikingly set against a contrasting stark white and rolling 3-dimensional matrix. The matrix is said to be made up of fine-grained Olshanskyite and Calcite. For added color, we also see a patchy turquoise-blue coating of an unknown mineral here and there.
